Alex Knapp

I currently hold a job as Social Media Editor and a Staff Writer for Forbes Magazine. This is the space where I post interesting things and jot down some thoughts that are too long for Twitter but too disorganized or short for blogging. I hope it goes without saying that all opinions are mine, and not my employer's. But it case it doesn't, now you know.

From Nature:

Katrin Amunts and her colleagues at the Research Centre Juelich, Germany are explorers. Explorers of the brain – striking out and finding new territories; rewriting and adding to our brain maps.

What, you thought we’d already got a map of the brain? “We have not got a complete map, and there is no such thing as a single map of the brain,” says Amunts.

It’s amazing how much we don’t know about the brain - 150 to 200 areas left to map! Then after we map it, we start learning more about it. This is the kind of discovery that reminds you that neuroscience is in its infancy. Which is what makes the Singularity claims that we’ll be able to “upload” the mind doesn’t make sense. We barely know how the brain works so far - hell, we don’t even know where all the parts are yet!
